DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMICS

History and Genesis:

The Department of Economics was started in June 1974, with the inception of the college as Major subject. The scheme of one Major and two Minor subjects in B.A. course was replaced by three equal Optional Subjects in 1990-91. Semester system for UG course has been introduced from 2005-06 academic years on the same subject pattern. Bachelor of Commerce Course was introduced in the college from the academic year 1977-78, where economics as one of the compulsory subjects is included.

Prof. R. L. Kanak established the department in the year 1974 and then Prof. S. P. Keriyappa joined in the year 1977. After serving the department for more than 35 years both retired and as a result of which the vacancies in the department have been filled up by the management on contract basis. Presently department has two staff members who are highly qualified in their respective fields. In 2019 July 4th Mr. Shankar S. Kandhare is appointed as Assistant Professor of Economics under UGC Scale. Mrs. Kulsumbi A. Shaikh is appointed as Guest faculty in the department of Economics.

Vision:

  • The department of economics striving for the holistic development of the students and also creation of budding economists.

Mission:

  • To prepare students for acquiring applied knowledge of economics to enhance their employability and entrepreneurship.
  • To motivate the academic environment by promoting quality in teaching-learning.

Objectives of the department:

  • To provide useful information and current issues to the students about national & international economic developments.
  • To create an awareness about the use of resources and its management.
  • To provide sound basis for preparing the students for pursuing higher education in economics.
  • To develop the capacity of students to achieve personal and professional development.
